        Buffalo Pound Provincial Park

        Provincial Park, Provincial Campground

        Located 20 minutes northeast of Moose Jaw, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park offers a balanced blend of nature and recreational opportunities. Once used by First Nations to corral bison, the park maintains a captive herd in a paddock that's situated among the area's scenic rolling hills.  

        This park offers excellent hiking, mountain biking and fat biking trails, fishing, canoeing and kayaking opportunities. Two disc golf courses - a beginner 9-hole disc golf course and a professional 18-hole disc golf course. Newly built heated outdoor pool opened in 2020. Enjoy migrant waterfowl viewing at Nicolle Flats Interpretive Area and Marsh Boardwalk. The park is a great destination for day-trips, offering awesome views of the Qu'Appelle Valley which are especially spectacular in the fall. Along with multiple-night camping options, Buffalo Pound is the perfect choice for your next visit. For that perfect getaway with minimal effort and preparation, Buffalo Pound has two Camp-Easy yurts available for booking.

        ​The Western Development Museum - Moose Jaw highlights the modes of transportation that changed the face of the prairies. Automobiles, rail, vintage aircraft – this museum has it all! The aviation exhibits include a dedicated Snowbirds aerobatic team display. During the summer, hop aboard the K+S Potash Canada Short Line 101, and experience the only operating steam locomotive in Saskatchewan as it chugs along the 400 m track. Note that operation of the steam locomotive is subject to weather conditions, always call in advance to check on availability. Enjoy the gift shop, picnic tables and ample free parking at their location conveniently located adjacent to Highway 1.

        Moose Jaw is the mural capital of North America featuring 47 giant outdoor murals. This classic collection of murals painted on the exterior walls of downtown buildings, depicts the challenge and excitement of the city's early years. In 2016 Moose Jaw participated in Canada 150 Mosaic National Mural project and created a new large mural with painted tiles.         Moose Jaw's ​Wakamow Valley is a four-season urban park and conservation agency with over 20 km of trail systems that provide an accessible environment in a natural park setting. Enjoy activities such as biking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and skating. The valley is also home to four playgrounds, seven park pavilion areas and almost 500 acres of parkland and natural habitat.

        Park areas include Plaxton's Lake and Kiwanis River Park - picnic and canoe; Kiwanis Wellesley Park, Rotary Park, Lions Park and Connor Park - walking trails, playgrounds, picnic and skating areas; Kingsway Eco-Zone - nature study trails; McCaig Natural Gardens; and Lorne Calvert Campground.
